La ville, la cabane, la forêt et les champs

CAC Meymac, France

Mar. 22 - Jun. 14, 2026

We are pleased to announce that SÉBASTIEN BONIN is currently part of the new exhibition "La ville, la cabane, la forêt et les champs" at CAC Meymac in France.

This new exhibition brings together the work of around forty artists for whom the cabin embodies freedom, autonomy, and the ability to live in harmony with nature without giving up the advantages of modernity.

INTENTION

Men and women are increasingly living in cities. These cities are evolving in their design, moving toward the creation of global spaces—integrated microcosms that, like an island or a coral reef, encompass the diversity of their inhabitants' ways of life, as well as animal and plant biodiversity. At the same time, under the pretext of coordinating spaces, circulation, and the rhythms of this diversity, buildings are rising ever higher, reaching up into the clouds.

And yet, those who live in metropolitan areas dream of villages, of houses with a patch of land, and of gathering mushrooms in rewilded countryside dotted with deep forests and ponds. Rural areas, where agricultural and farming activities are retreating, are gradually becoming spaces for scientists or for visitors and explorers.

At the heart of this wide gap—between these two contradictory developments—stands discreetly, even secretly, the cabin: a construction that is often temporary, improvised, and fragile; a supplementary or substitute space with multiple uses, where tools are stored, where one sometimes sleeps—a cave, a hiding place, a temporary shelter or refuge for those who wander, migrate, or lose their way.
