Ce que l'horizon promet
Fondation Group EDF, Paris, France
Mar. 12 - Sep. 28, 2025
Through its contemporary art exhibitions, the Foundation tackles social issues such as fake news, travel, sobriety and our relationship with living things. With Ce que l'horizon promet, we question our relationship with the future, between belief and rationality, uncertainty and control. In a world of perpetual change, this exhibition questions our perception of the future and our ability to anticipate it:
How do we project ourselves into a future that is, by definition, uncertain? What tools, what beliefs, what disciplines do we mobilize to try and see things more clearly? How do we assess the risks and opportunities of a career change? Why do we anticipate the consequences of our food choices on our health? Why do we consult our horoscope or trust prediction algorithms?
These behaviors illustrate our perpetual need to reduce uncertainty and better control what lies ahead. Between personal intuitions, popular beliefs and scientific approaches, our ways of anticipating the future reveal our fears and hopes.
If the horizon is an imaginary line, an ever-shifting vanishing point, it is also a promise: that of a possible future, an unknown to be deciphered.
